Every year, millions of people get diagnosed with cancer, with each case requiring a unique approach to treatment. Physicians, however, often find it challenging to deliver personalized care due to a lack of access to relevant, patient-specific data. Currently, the bulk of prognostic evidence and treatment decisions in oncology rely on clinical trials, which typically omit this crucial patient-specific information. This leads to disparities in survival rates between clinical trial participants and patients observed in real-world settings. Our client saw this problem and set out to create a solution: an AI-powered clinical decision support system for personalizing cancer treatments, enriched with a decade's worth of patient-reported outcomes. To bring their vision to life, they sought the expertise of a top-tier AI development team. That's when they chose ITRex.

Our mission:
Our mission was to provide an end-to-end implementation of the AI-powered clinical decision support system. Our holistic approach covered everything, from an ML-based predictive engine, back-end and front-end development, UI/UX design, architecture optimization, and database support, to QA and DevOps integration, including the critical process of data migration.


In just seven months, ITRex designed and built a scalable AI clinical decision support platform paired with proprietary data to aid cancer patients and healthcare providers in making informed treatment decisions. The platform provides insights into the effects of treatment options based on a patient’s age, sex, race/ethnicity, health status, and diagnosis. It consists of three integrated components:
MyInsights, a predictive tool offering visual survival curves and comparing treatment effects, considering various patient-specific factors such as age, gender, comorbility, etc.
MyCommunity, a supportive social network for patients to share experiences within personalized communities
MyJournal, a space for patients to document their cancer journey from diagnosis to survivorship, facilitating comparisons with others’ experiences
The treatment recommendation platform features an intuitive web questionnaire and versatile report-generation tools, allowing for easy specification of conditions and the ability to download reports as PDFs. From a technical standpoint, our approach encompassed:
Infrastructure setup and enhancement: Utilizing AWS for a robust foundation and optimizing the client’s MySQL database structure
Algorithm integration: Developing a bespoke algorithm for report generation and embedding best DevOps practices for efficient project management
Framework transition: Migrating to the Laravel framework and constructing a solid API for seamless component integration
