Ahead of the start of a professional basketball league’s new season, the client wanted to upgrade the league’s outdated official sports app that was frustrating fans with its poor functionality. As mobile app experience has become crucial to sports consumers, the client knew that they should launch a new, feature-rich app allowing fans to catch all the action every day of the season. ITRex had successfully built a few software solutions for the client previously. So they didn’t hesitate to approach us once again for help with creating a winning mobile sports app for basketball fans.

Our task was to:
Build a mobile app for iOS and Android using the latest functionalities of the two operating systems
Integrate the app with the platforms of basketball statistics providers
Implement a deep link taking users to external broadcasting platforms
Host the infrastructure on AWS to ensure stability during large-scale events in terms of downloads and concurrent users
Use a microservices approach to drive flexibility
Provide social media functionality
Run manual and automated tests to make sure no security, performance or integration issues affect user experience

Homepage with stories and videos that include a live streaming video section integrated with an external platform
Game cards added to the homepage to watch live games
Game highlights page giving users access to player/team profiles, game stats, live score, and highlights
Live betting odds via a link with external services
Display of the latest results at the end of the game day
Schedules per calendar days
Individually customized news feed
Trivia quizzes and integration with social media networks to share the experience
Other gamification features allowing fans to predict game outcomes and pick the best player
Segmentation of users according to their app usage stats and preferences for newsletter and push notifications as part of targeted ad campaigns
